Let me tell you this:
  • The Spring BFA show (which I will be part of) opens Friday, April 28th.
  • You should go.
  • You should get your friends to go.
  • I don't have any idea what my setup is going to look like, but it'll be fun.
  • I've got some surprises up my sleeve.

  • Petition to Save the Jewelry Program at FIU Apr. 7th, 2006 @ 05:08 am

    Fellow Students,

As some of you may or may not know, Florida International University has made the decision to cancel the Jewelry and Small Metalworks program starting Summer 2006. Therefore students will no longer be able to expand their artistic horizons by taking this amazing class. This class/program means a lot to me, and many other students in and out of the FIU Art Program, and the cancellation of it is a disservice to the students of FIU. If you have ever thought of taking the Jewelry class, known someone who enjoyed taking it, feel that the fight to keep our arts programs alive is an important one, or just feel like doing your good deed for the day - PLEASE take a minute out of your day to click this link and sign the online petition! Or if you want to sign the paper version of this petition, I can be found Tuesdays/Thursdays/and Fridays on FIU's University Park campus in the Ceramics/Metalwork studio area! Also, please feel free to forward the link to this petition to any and all friends you have that are FIU students, every single signature makes a difference!

    Sincerely,

    EJ Greaves

    Masters Mystery Art Show.

The Masters Mystery Art Show 2005 is an international exhibition that will coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach 2005. Artists are invited to donate original work in any medium in a 6 x 9 postcard format to be sold for the affordable price of $50. All artists names will be published at the time of the exhibition but the works will be displayed anonymously and the identity of the artist will only be revealed to the purchaser after the completion of the sale.

The event is organized for the sole benefit of the prestigious Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts (MFA) program at Florida International University, Miami. In its remarkably successful 2004 inaugural edition, which took place at the Ritz Carlton South Beach, over 1000 artworks by more than 500 artists and celebrities from art related fields were featured and over $20,000 was raised for the MFA program.

The show opens Tuesday, November 29th for viewing only. Work will be available for sale for $50 each from Nov 30-Dec4. When I get info on the opening reception I will let you know. Go out. Take those philanthropist friends of yours out. The art at this show is real cheap. You may even see something you like. And remember this will be your only chance to see the work in this show.

The previously mentioned solo show of teacher Gretchen Scharnagl obviously didn't happen because of the hurricane but it has been rescheduled for Thursday the 17th.

FIU's very own drawing, ceramics, 2D teacher virtuoso Gretchen Scharnagl is having her first solo show at Broward Community College's South Campus next month. Her work is wonderful and quite something to see. It's a heck of a drive but very worth it. She'll be speaking at the opening so make sure to go out and get yourself learned.

    November 17 – December ?, 2005
    Thursday, November 17, 7:00 p.m.
Lecture by the artist, Lecture Hall 133, Building 69 and 8:00 p.m.
Opening Reception at The Art Gallery, Building 69
